Esther Louise Glass was born on November 22, 1932 to parents Harry Sr. and Gladys Tyree of Jeffersonville, Ohio. She was the third of five girls and the sixth of nine children.
Esther was educated in the Fayette County Public School system and graduated from Jeffersonville High School where she played basketball and sang beautifully in the choir and in a girls group with neighborhood friends.
On May 2, 1953 Esther was joined in holy matrimony to James W. Glass Sr. from Xenia, Ohio. This blessed union produced three children ( Teresa, James Jr. and David). Esther and James Sr. (Big Jim) started their journey together in Springfield, Ohio before moving back to her hometown of Jeffersonville a few years later where they raised their family and attended First Baptist Church. Her husband later became a deacon of the church and eventually the Mayor of the village of Jeffersonville.
Esther’s love of music stayed with her throughout her life and she was particularly fond of the music of Sam Cooke, Frankie Beverly and Maze, and Luther Vandross.
Family was always paramount to Esther and she remained close with her family members throughout her life. After a long life of 91 years , Esther peacefully slipped away to be with her Lord on March 6, 2024. She was preceded in death by her parents (Harry Sr. and Gladys Tyree), 5 siblings (Della Huff [Reed], Harry Tyree Jr. [Norma], Kenneth Tyree, Genevieve Gray [Howard], Milton Tyree [Julia] and husband James Glass Sr). She is survived by 3 siblings (William Tyree [Marlene], Shirley Addison, Beverly Robinson [David], her children (Teresa Corbett [Wayne], James Glass Jr. [Denise], David Glass [Sandra]) her grandchildren (Adrianne Hall [David], Chante’ Walley-Glass, Deandre Glass, Devin Glass, Brandon Glass and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, great and great-great grandchildren. She was truly a blessing and will be greatly missed by all family and friends.
Esther’s family will receive friends Saturday, March 16, 2024 at the First Baptist Church in Jeffersonville, Ohio, from 10 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. Committal services will follow immediately in the Jeffersonville Cemetery
