Richard William Clayton, Jr., age 71, of Wilmington, died Sunday, June 24, 2018 at Vitas Hospice Care Center in Cincinnati. He was born September 1, 1946 in Wilmington, the son of the late Richard William and Jean Harrington Clayton. Dick was hired by the Wilmington Fire Department February 10, 1973, he became a Paramedic shortly thereafter. He retired as Battalion Chief February 10, 1998. Dick is survived by one son, Sean Thomas (Cheryl) Clayton of Renton, Washington; step-children, Stephanie (Tim) Starkey of Sabina, Michelle (Todd) Kessler of Sabina, and Ritch Clevenger of Sabina; grand-daughter Rylee Clayton; step-grandchildren, Christopher Moore, Caitlynn Moore, and Lydia Kessler. In addition to his parents, Dick is preceded in death by wife Penny Clevenger Clayton; step-granddaughter Alysha Clevenger Smith; and brother Gary Clayton. Funeral services will be held 1:00 p.m. Monday, July 23, 2018 at Brown Funeral Home, Wilmington. Firefighter Memorial Service will be presented by the Wilmington Fire Department. Burial will follow in the Sugar Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. until the time of service at 1:00 p.m. Monday July 23, 2018 at the funeral home.
