Bert Spurlock

Bert Spurlock, age 92, of Clarksville, passed away peacefully Friday, May 26, 2023, at home with family by his side.  He was born December 13, 1930 in Breathitt County, Kentucky the son of the late Ford and Ida (Morris) Spurlock.  Bert retired from Valley Steel in Clarksville after more than 40 years of service.  Bert and his wife Thelma moved to Cincinnati from Kentucky in 1955, to work at Valley Steel Industries.  After several years there, the family moved to Clarksville where Bert retired from Valley Steel as yard foreman.  Bert was a nature lover, he enjoyed keeping his property well-manicured, he also enjoyed tending to the trees and birds that called his land home.  He was a master wood worker, designing and building numerous pieces of furniture and keepsakes.  After retirement, he and Thelma enjoyed traveling, many times taking several vacations a year together, (they have a plate collection of many of the places they visited).  Bert is survived by his wife of nearly 70 years, Thelma (McIntosh) Spurlock, to whom he married September 4, 1953; children, Kenneth (Kathe) Spurlock of Cartersville, Georgia, and Kimberly (Bill) Kraus of Dover, Tennessee; grandchildren, Stephanie (Terry) Bennington of Centerville, Kenneth Andrew (Rocky) Spurlock of Clarksville, Allisee (Richard) Moore of Goshen, Jackie (Emily) Bogart of Columbus, and Candace Kraus of Dayton, Jennifer (Kevin) Zachry of South Carolina, Harold Jr. (Brandi) Albert of Georgia, Heather (Jamie) Over of Georgia; great grandchildren, Tyler, Cheyenne, Michael, Abigail, Quintin, Geoffrey, Landon, Gryphon, Freya, Zanaia, Zyder, Zuri, Zalia, Zachary, Elijah, Harold III, Elsie, Graham, Indiana and Matthew; great great grandchildren, Zariah, Eleanor, Flora, and Jaziyah; and sister Ruth Elliott of Richmond, Kentucky; brother Wayne Spurlock of Beattyville, Kentucky; and many nieces and nephews.   In addition to his parents, Bert is preceded in death by sisters, Geneva, Juanita, Annie, and Naomi; and two brothers, Ford Jr. and Curtis.  Funeral services will be held 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 31, 2023, at Brown Funeral Home, Wilmington.    Burial will follow in the Clarksville Cemetery.
