Charles William Statler, age 87, of Wilmington, Ohio, passed away peacefully Wednesday, February 17, 2021surrounded by loved ones. He was born November 15, 1933 on the family farm in the Clinton County Community of Pansy Road to the late Fred and Dovie (Clark) Statler. Charles was preceded in death by his parents; brother Louis Henry Statler; sister Mary Louise Bush; and great granddaughters, Sohana and Asha McVey. He is survived by his three daughters, Patti (Mike) Jacobs, Barb (Todd) Holmes, and Brenda (Rich) Scholz; long-time friend Linda Hall and her daughter Kathy (Glenn) Little; nine grandchildren, Meghan McVey, Kyle (Meera) McVey, Rachael (Alex) Stothfang, Josh (Emily) Jacobs, Sam (Melissa) Holmes, Adam Holmes, Andrew (Alexis) Holmes, Jake Hollen, and Luke Hollen; five great grandchildren, Ana Stothfang, Austin Holmes, Saiya McVey, Nora Jacobs, and Claire Jacobs. Charles graduated from Clarksville High School. He then joined the United States Air Force where he served until 1987 when he retired from the Wright-Patterson Air Force Base. Charles enjoyed woodworking, helping others, and practical jokes. He loved spending time with his family. He had been active with the Wilmington Lion’s Club, especially helping with Kamp Dovetail and the Eye Glass Program. He was also a life member of the Wilmington Elk’s Club #797 and Wilmington American Legion Post #49. He was passionate about his genealogy and had spent many years researching. Charles also played the piano, harmonica, guitar and saxophone, and had played in several Civic Bands in Ohio. Funeral services will be held 12:00 p.m. Saturday, February 27, 2021 at Brown Funeral Home, Wilmington. Sam Holmes will officiate. Burial will follow in the Clarksville Cemetery where Military Honors will be accorded by the American Legion Post #49 Honor Guard. Visitation will be held Saturday from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service at 12:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
