It is with deepest sorrow that we announce the passing of Charles "Charlie" Wertz, who departed this life February 25, 2025, at the age of 94.
Charlie was born May 24, 1930, to the late Grace and Gurney Wertz. He was also preceded in death by Bonnie, his loving wife of 66 years; a sister, Wanda Collins; and daughter-in-law, Vicky Wertz.
Charlie is survived by his loving children, son, Michael Wertz and daughter, Debbie (Dale) Achtermann; Granddaughters, Jamie (Floyd) Meredith and Kelli (Brad) McCray; great grandsons, Peyton and Perry Meredith and Victor McCray; a sister, Charlotte Christophel; brother-in-law Nolan (Barbara) Burden; and sister-in-law, Gladys Hammon.
Charlie worked most of his life in foundries. He was a very independent man that enjoyed mowing his yard, working in his shed, sitting on the porch and talking about history and the old days. Charlie served in the Korean War and told great stories of his time driving tanks, walking guard and good times in Germany. He was a generous man that would do anything for his family. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
A private graveside service was held March 11, 2025, at New Antioch Cemetery. Brown Funeral Home, Wilmington, assisted the family.
