Charlie "Fibber" Knauff Obituary

Charlie “Fibber” Knauff, age 85, of New Vienna, passed away Tuesday, May 4, 2021 at the Clinton Memorial Hospital.  He was born January 7, 1936 in Peebles, Ohio the son of the late Charles F. and Agnes (Hayslip) Knauff.  Fibber was a member of the New Vienna Church of Christ.  His heart and soul was in the car business and he made many tremendous friends through the years.  Fibber was the type of man that would give you the shirt of his back.  He enjoyed helping people in their time of need and had never met a stranger.  He truly loved and cherished the friendships he made in his trade.  Fibber moved to New Vienna in the mid 1950’s from Sinking Springs.  At that time, he went to work at the Randall Company in New Vienna.  He met his wife to be, Martha Williams at the Dairy Corner while she was working.  Around 1960 he bought the Corner Shell Service Station and operated it until 1966 when he sold and started his first car lot, “Knauff Motors” on Bernard Road.  In 1969 he purchased the Mongold Oil Company in downtown New Vienna, running the station and handling bulk delivery.  In 1983 he started Knauff Satellite which he operated with his son Keith, and in 1984 re-established Knauff and Sons Auto Sales until moving to its present location in 1987.  His son Phil joined and worked in the family business until he passed away in 2015.  Fibber is survived by his wife Martha (Williams) Knauff, to whom he married June 22, 1958 in New Vienna; son Keith Knauff of New Vienna; sisters Irene Puckett, Ruth Chaney, and Kay Bartley; brothers Glenn (Nancy) Knauff and Jim Van Pelt; numerous nieces and nephews including a special nephew Mike Knauff and special nieces Elizabeth (Roger) Westbeld; several great nieces and nephews; and many, many wonderful friends.  Fibber is preceded in death by his parents, Charles F. Knauff and Agnes (Hayslip) Knauff; son Phil Knauff; sister Inez McCleese; brothers Max Knauff and Wylie Knauff; and step-father Oscar Van Pelt.  Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, May 12, 2021 at the New Vienna Church of Christ.  Brad Clouse will officiate.  Burial will follow in the Auburn Cemetery on Careytown Road.  Visitation will be held Tuesday, May 11, 2021 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m., and from 10:30 until the time of service at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at the New Vienna Church of Christ.  For more information, or to leave an on-line condolence, please visit www.arehart-brown.com, or see our Facebook page, Brown Funeral Home.
