Daniel Robert “Dan” Johnson, age 82 years, died at Christ Hospital, Cincinnati following a lengthy illness on Thursday, October 13.
Daniel was born October 10, 1940, to Robert and Geraldine (McCarren) Johnson. He is survived by his wife, Ann (Ellis) of forty years and his daughter, Correna “Corrie” of New Albany, Ohio. He was a lifelong member of St. Columbkille Catholic Church in Wilmington.
He is also survived by daughters Dani (Randy) Carruthers, Leslie (Scott) Massie, Shelley (James) Adkins, and a son, Jarrod (Debra) Johnson. Grandchildren include Claire and Sadie Carruthers; Taylor, Grant, Evan, and Conner Massie; Jack (Heather) Adkins; and Hayden Johnson. A sister Julie Hawk and many other family relatives live in the Wilmington area.
Dan graduated from Wilmington High School in 1958 and attended the Ohio State University graduating in 1962 with a degree in Agriculture.
He was in the Air Force Reserves for six years. He was a salesman for Allied Chemical and for Swift Chemical and formed Midland Crop and Leesburg Crop, locally. He was an entrepreneur in the restaurant business, including Duff’s and Stacey’s, both in Ohio and Florida. He also owned a Gold Star Chili in Maineville and his favorite, “Events”, a bar and restaurant in Athens, Ohio. He was a true farm boy at heart and enjoyed his family farm in Wilmington which he owned for many years.
Dan spent years serving on the board of Snow Hill Country Club and was a member of the Wilmington Elks where he held many leadership offices.
He loved all sports, especially OSU football and the Bengals. He enjoyed his two South Carolina homes on Lake Murrey and Daufuskie Island in the Hilton Head area.
Special canine companions through the years were Skipper Tom, Shadow, and Bandit, who will miss Dan terribly.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 AM, Thursday October 20. Father Bernard J. Weldisofer will be the Celebrant. Burial will follow in Sugar Grove Cemetery.
