Darrell O. Baird, age 71, of Wilmington, passed away peacefully Saturday, June 5, 2021 at his home with family by his side. He was born September 6, 1949 in Adams County, Ohio, the son of the late Orville and Thelma (Baldwin) Baird. Darrell was a proud Veteran of the United States Army serving during the Vietnam War. He had been a truck driver with both Sewell Motor Express, and R & L Trucking. Darrell also farmed in Adams County where he grew up near Peebles. Above all, he was a loving family man who was proud of his family. He is survived by his wife Mindy (Smalley) Baird, to whom he married July 2, 1994, in Wilmington; daughter Briana Baird of Wilmington; three sisters-in-law, Jenny and her husband Gary Slagle of Wilmington, Suzanne and her husband Dan Novak of Florida and Lori and her husband Tom Meshefski of Sabina; brother-in- law Ronnie and his wife Norma Smalley of New Vienna; cousin Naomi Waters; and special friend Burnal Sell. In addition to his parents, Darrell is preceded in death by one sister, Mary Esther; mother-in-law Shirley Smalley; and father-in-law Harold Smalley. Funeral services will be held 12:00m p.m. Friday, June 11, 2021 at the Wilmington Church of Christ. Dale McCamish will officiate. Burial with Military Honors accorded by the American Legion Post #49 Honor Guard will follow in the Martinsville I.O.O.F Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service at 12:00 p.m. Friday at the church. Brown Funeral Home, Wilmington is assisting the family.
