David William Allen (Big Dog), age 71, of Wilmington, passed away November 16, 2024 at home surrounded by his family following his battle with cancer. David was born January 1, 1953 as the Clinton County New Year's Baby, son of the late Robert Allen and Margene (Fife) Allen.
Surviving are his wife, Sharon (Kellum) Allen whom he married February 15, 1986; son, David Kellum Allen (Brittany Starkey and son, Braxton Starkey); daughter, Kathryn Ann Allen; granddaughter, Sutton Grace Allen; sister, Janene Dunn; niece, Jennifer (Zach) Camp and great-nephews Cooper and Clayton Camp; nephew, Justin (Ashley) Dunn; and great-niece, Vera Dunn.
Anyone that knew him well, knew the stories he could tell, as he was the king of BS. Some true, maybe some exaggerated, but he always made his stories full of laughter.
David was an extremely good baseball player. In 1971 he was named All-Ohio while playing as a Hurricane for the Wilmington High School baseball team and was later inducted into both the Wilmington High School Hall of Fame (2004) and the Clinton County Sports Hall of Fame (2017). David started his career in baseball at Wilmington Parks and Recreation and then on to Wilmington High School, where he was All-Ohio as a senior hitting almost .500. After graduating he played for Dick Shaffer on the Hillsboro American Legion baseball team. After many years of playing the game he loved, he later in life returned to the baseball field coaching his son Davey in the Wilmington City Park and Knothole baseball leagues, starting with T-ball all the way through high school. He loved every minute getting to coach his son but the story doesn't end there; they coached together for a few years back where it all started at Wilmington Parks and Recreation.
David had retired from Technicolor Entertainment in 2019.
