David Franklin "Dave" Chesney, our beloved husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, uncle and faithful servant of God, went home to be with his Lord and Savior very unexpectedly at his home with his beloved wife by his side March 6, 2026, at the age of 49. He is survived by his wife of nearly 20 years of marriage. David was born November 7, 1976, in Wilmington, Ohio, the firstborn son of David A. And Shelia Chesney. He was a 1995 graduate of Wilmington High School and was a Veteran of the United States Navy, having served his Country from 1995 until 2002. David was an active community member, serving as a 4-H advisor for the On Target and Pork Pride 4-H clubs, and was a 3rd degree Knight in the Knights of Columbus. He especially loved the outdoors- camping, fishing, outdoor cooking, and smoking meats were among his favorite pastimes. David also enjoyed watching the New York Rangers play hockey and practiced archery. He will be missed and eternally loved by his wife, Melissa Chesney (Thackston); his children, Autumn (Andrew Rakes) Huston, Stewart Huston, Stanley Chesney, Isaac Chesney, Leah Chesney, Elaina Chesney, Molly Chesney, and Dorothy Chesney; his grandchildren, Seraphina Shafer, Dallas Mojica, and Winter Rakes; his parents, David A. and Shelia Chesney; his sister, Emily (John) Edwards; niece, Addison Edwards; nephew, Jack Edwards; and his in-laws, Kerry and Joyce Thackston. David is proceeded in death by a granddaughter, Charlotte Shafer. Visitation will be 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. Monday, March 16, 2026, at Brown Funeral Home, Wilmington. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 17, 2026, at St. Columbkille Catholic Church in Wilmington. Concelebrants include Fr. Thomas Mannebach, Fr. Michael Holloran, & Fr. Matthew Montag. Prior to Mass of Christian Burial, at 10:00 a.m., Military honors will be accorded to recognize David's service to his country in the United States Navy. Honors will be accorded outside the church by the American Legion Post #49 Honor Guard of Wilmington.
