David Walter "Joe" Staten

David Walter “Joe” Staten, age 85, of Wilmington, formerly of Harpster, Ohio, passed away Wednesday, October 25, 2023, at Legacy Nursing and Rehabilitation in Hillsboro, Ohio. He was born September 29, 1938, in War, West Virginia, the son of the late Theodore and Lula (Pack) Staten. Joe was a Veteran of the United States Navy, having helped in the decommissioning of the USS Iowa. He loved the outdoors, before relocating to Wilmington in January, he lived on a small farm in Harpster. He worked diligently clearing the land, and falling trees for firewood. Joe didn’t burn the firewood; he gave it all away to his neighbors. He was a good Christian man who deeply cared for others. Joe is survived by his wife, Jeanne (Barnes) Staten; son Cole (Jessica) Staten of Alexandria, Ohio; grandson Jacob Staten; his wife Jeanne’s children, Nial Wilkin of Grove City, Jeralynn Wilkin of Florida, Mike (Melody) Wilkin of Lynchburg, David Mark (Carrie) Wilkin of Lynchburg, Karl Scott Wilkin of Lynchburg, and Dodi (Eric) Wright of Florida; several step-grand and great grandchildren; sister Stella “Sonny” Brown of Grove City; several nieces and nephews; and many friends. In addition to his parents, Joe is preceded in death by a six-month old son; and seven siblings. Funeral services will be held 3:00 p.m. Thursday, November 2, 2023, at Brown Funeral Home, Wilmington. Floyd Radebaugh will officiate. Visitation will be held Thursday from 1:00 p.m. until the time of service at 3:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
