Derrick Paul Ferguson, age 52, of Wilmington, passed away peacefully Monday, April 18, 2022 at his home with his family by his side. He was born November 6, 1969, in Baltimore, Maryland. Derrick was an avid reader, a follower of all sports, especially Ohio State, and enjoyed many types of music. He loved good bourbon and a good cigar. Derrick was a member of several cigar clubs and an active member of the Wilmington Fraternal Order of the Eagles where he especially enjoyed manning the grill for Steak Night. Derrick was well known for his big smile, wonderful sense of humor and welcoming spirit. He was best known for his love of cooking and all of his fabulous creations which he loved to post on Facebook for all to see. Nothing made Derrick happier than cooking good food for as many people as possible. He did this through “cooking with love,” as he would say for just himself and his wife, small family gatherings, Christmas and graduation parties and various cook-offs. Derrick especially enjoyed cooking for The Ohio State Football tailgates where he welcomed family, friends and anyone who simply stopped by, creating a lasting impression and forever impacting the lives of so many. Derrick is survived by his wife, Misty Rosé (Ward) Ferguson, to whom he married July 3, 2000; son, Zachery Ryan (Christina Isaac) Ferguson of Jackson, Ohio; granddaughter, Taylen Ryann Ferguson; brother Joseph (Desiree) Ferguson of Wake Forest, North Carolina; mother-in-law Shirley Ward; father-in-law Karl and his wife Dixie Ward; sister-in-law Brandy and her husband Roger McCord; two nieces and three nephews; several cousins; and many friends, including his best friend Jody Ames of Wilmington, who introduced Derrick to so many friends that became family. Funeral services will be held 3:00 p.m. Sunday, April24, 2022 at Brown Funeral Home, Wilmington. Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. until the time of service at 3:00 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Interment will take place later at the convenience of the family. Following the service at the funeral home, a repast will be held at the Fraternal Order of Eagles Banquet Room, 141 E. Sugartree Street, Wilmington. All are invited to share food and fellowship.
