Edward C. "Eddie" Kienle, Jr.

Edward Charles “Eddie” Kienle, Jr., age 82, of Wilmington, passed away Saturday, August 17, 2024, at the home of his brother near Clarksville.  He was born March 21, 1942, at Ft. Hayes in Columbus, Ohio, the son of the late Edward C. and Winifred E. (Newberry) Kienle, Sr.  Eddie was a member of St. Columbkille Catholic Church in Wilmington.  He was a veteran of the Unites States Air Force, following his enlisted service, he continued working in Civil Service, and was a member of the Air Force Reserves until his retirement.  Eddie volunteered at the Wright-Patterson Air Force Base Museum for many years.  He was involved with plane restoration, and had a hand in the building of the replica “Wright Flyer”.  He then became a tour guide for the museum and enjoyed sharing information about the many exhibits.  For all of his dedication to the museum, he had been named “Volunteer of the Year”, an award he was very proud of.  In his time away from working and volunteering, Eddie was a “gearhead”.  He loved cars, especially race cars, he has built nearly 40 race cars, most currently working to build a front engine dragster.  He enjoyed building and racing cars all over the area, and was very happy to help, and share is knowledge with young car builders and drivers.  Eddie is survived by three siblings, Susan Kienle of Wilmington, Anne E. (Andrew J. Rogers) Kienle-Garcia of Del-Rio, Texas, and Buddy Kienle of Clarksville; two nephews, Cade Kienle and Andrew Kienle; his faithful dog Elle and cat Sis; and the many friends and acquaintances he has made at the museum and in the drag racing communities.  Funeral services will be held 11:30 a.m., Friday, August 23, 2024, at Brown Funeral Home, Wilmington.  Deacon Bob Baker will officiate.  Burial will follow in the Sugar Grove Cemetery, Wilmington.  Visitation will be held Friday from 10:30 a.m. until the time of service at 11:30 a.m. at the funeral home.  To leave an on-line condolence, please visit www.arehart-brown.com, or see our Facebook page, Brown Funeral Home.
