Helen "Ginger" Johnson, age 75, of Port William passed away at Clinton Memorial Hospital on August 10, 2022, after a short illness. Ginger was born November 17, 1946 in New Vienna, the daughter of the late Gomer and Julie (Holbrook) Martin. The family moved to Port William when Ginger was 8, where she has spent her entire life. This is where Ginger would meet her husband, Bob Johnson and marry on October 31, 1964. Ginger established a beauty shop attached to the home where the couple resided their entire marriage. She loved styling all her friends and was still working right up until the time of her illness.
Ginger was the life of every party, a lover of the sun, and an avid bridge player. She loved Elvis, flamingos, traveling and her large circle of friends. But, most of all, Ginger cherished her family. Along with her husband, Bob, Ginger is survived by her daughter, Jill (Rob) Thompson and grandchildren, Anne and Adam Thompson, of Wilmington.
Ginger is also survived by her brother, Lou (Jackie) Martin of Port William; sisters, Sherry Williams of Wilmington and Tyhese (Mike) Curtis of Wilmington; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Ginger is preceded in death by three brothers, Greg, Gerald and Chris Martin; nephew, Terry Martin; and niece, Hilary Levandofsky.
The family would like to thank the staffs at Clinton Memorial Hospital, The James, and Community Care Hospice for their support during this difficult time.
