Janet Carmean Obituary

Our mother, Janet L. Carmean (Harless), born February 25, 1937, went home to be with her Heavenly Father on February 12, 2021.

Our mother was the oldest of ten children born to Byrd and Goldie Harless of Hillsboro, Ohio.  Even with dementia, our mother still was able to recollect fond memories of her childhood, giving her light and comfort through her final years of Alzheimer’s.  Janet had many responsibilities growing up on a large farm, but one she shared often was caring for her siblings: Delbert, Judy (Akers), Ronald, Alta (Kidder), Arthur, Robert, Rita (Lowe), Brenda (Nahrwold) and her late brother, Roger.

Our mother met her late husband, our father, Carl Carmean, when she was 17 years old.  The story of their meeting has been retold so many times over the years that the story gained a life of its own.  Theirs was a love story that lasted almost 64 years. They were partners, and together they built a successful machine tool company, C&C Equipment /JCR Tech, located in Blanchester, OH.

Our mother was most proud of her five children: Rick Carmean (Kathy), Carla Schnetzer (Ted), Crystal Thornton (Kevin), Robyn McMillan (Kirk), and Brent Carmean (Anna).  Through the years, God’s blessings continued with 14 grandchildren: Brandon, Bryan, and Bradley Carmean; Keith and Justin Schnetzer; Olivia and William Thornton; Cory and Kelly Penquite; Beth-Ann Davidson, Brett McMillan; and Matthew, Isaiah, and Nathanael Carmean. They were also blessed with nine great-grandchildren.

No words can describe the love that we have for our mother. She was steadfastly devoted to her Savior and to her family. Our mother was there when we awoke, and she was there when we went to bed. Our mother was there when we cried, and she was there with every celebration. Our mother valued her role as a wife, but especially as a mother. “She is worth far more than rubies…her children arise and call her blessed” (Proverbs 31). Our mother was our jewel.

Our hearts are broken for the loss of our mother.  But we have comfort in that she is now restored with a new body and cradled in the arms of our Lord and Savior. For all of our friends and family that are caring for love ones, we understand at times it is so difficult and dark, but remember that weeping may tarry for the night, but “Joy comes with the morning,” Psalm 30:5.

Services for our mother will be held 12:00 p.m., Saturday, February 20, 2021 at Brown Funeral Home, located at 237 W. Main Street, Wilmington, OH.  Visitation hours will be from 10:00 AM-12:00 PM.  The funeral will begin at 12:00 PM.  The service will also be held live on Facebook at Brown Funeral Home.  Burial will follow in New Market Baptist Cemetery in Highland County.  Immediately following committal services, all are invited to Snow Hill Country Club for a time of fellowship with Janet’s family.  For more information, or to leave an on-line condolence, please visit www.arehart-brown.com or see our Facebook page, Brown Funeral Home
