John William Hughes, Sr. 78 of Kettering, Ohio, formerly of New Vienna, Ohio, passed away peacefully at Kettering Medical Center, December 7, 2022, after a brief illness. His loving family was at his side. John is now reunited with his sweetheart of 59 years, Mary Jo Hughes, who passed away on September 2, 2022.
John was born August 28, 1944, to Fred and Gwen Hughes. John was a hardworking family man, who loved farming and truck driving. In his younger years he worked at Wells and Buckeye Molding. Though he loved trucking, he didn’t like to be away from his family, so he began working with his father-in-law on his farm and eventually took over. In later years he drove livestock trucks.
John is survived by his daughter, Marta Tashan (Bora) of Kettering, his son, John William Hughes Jr. aka Bill (Shelley) of Lynchburg, his grandchildren, LeAnn Hackney (Kent) of New Vienna, Bradley Hughes (Elizabeth) of Washington C.H., Christopher Hughes (Marissa) of Wilmington and Aris Tashan of Kettering. Great grandchildren Peyton Garen, Leila Hughes, Janelle Capehart, Brody Hackney, Cooper Thompson, Aiden Hughes, and Bryn Hughes. He is also survived by a brother, David Hughes, New Vienna. In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by his brother Tom Hughes.
John loved his family and was always there when needed. He leaves us all with hilarious memories of his “eloquent” sayings. We are sure he is looking down on us now spouting off a few of those. Those who knew John well, knew that he had a soft, giving heart. This holiday season, please consider buying a gift or meal for a needy child or family in John's memory. The family will have a graveside service at the New Vienna Cemetery at a later date. Brown Funeral Home, Wilmington, is assisting the family.
