Lois Jane (Dalton) Newell

Lois Jane Newell, age 78, of Wilmington, passed away peacefully, Friday, April 28, 2023, at her home with family by her side.  She was born January 8, 1945, in Bloomington, Ohio the daughter of the late Oliver “Cotton” and Rachel (Brown) Dalton.  She was first a member of First Pentecostal Church of Xenia then a member of the Wilmington Church of God. Lois enjoyed shopping, yard sales,cooking, bingo and playing cards.  Lois loved her family and friends dearly. All the knew her, agree that she is a “hoot” with an contagious laugh.  Lois is survived by her long-time companion Jimmy “Lard” Morris; daughters, Jennifer Newell and Pamela Robertson, both of Wilmington; grandchildren, Melinda (James) Davis of Wilmington , Kristina Scholefield of TN, Rachel Davis of Wilmington , John Robertson, Edward Robertson, and Derrick Robertson all of IL; great grandchildren, Hunter Davis, Hayden Davis, and Landon Davis; sisters Jeanette “Nettie” Tolle, and Betty (Jim) Shepherd all of Martinsville; nieces, Jackie Stone of Carrabelle,FL and Janet Smith of New Vienna; and many friends from over the years.  In addition to her parents, Lois is preceded in death by one sister, Sara Newell, and an infant brother.  Four nephews James “Jimmy”Shepherd, David Tolle, Jeff Shepherd and John Reese Grooms all of Martinsville. Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Thursday, May 4, 2023 at Brown Funeral Home.  Pastor Andy Christianson will officiate.  Burial will follow in the Sugar Grove Cemetery, Wilmington.    Visitation will be held Thursday, from 12:00 p.m. noon, until the time of service at 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home.  To leave an on-line condolence, please visit www.arehart-brown.com, or see our Facebook page, Brown Funeral Home.
