Martin David Fahrer, age 58, of East Elmhurst, New York, passed away October 11, 2024, at New York - Presbyterian / Weill Cornell Medical Center, New York. He was born April 1, 1966, at Clinton Memorial Hospital in Wilmington, Ohio, the son of Clifford D. and Charlotte Kay (Nicodemus) Fahrer. Martin was a 1984 graduate of Wilmington High School, and upon completion, he attended both Wilmington College and Wright State University, where he earned his B.F.A. Design degree in theater design / technology in 1992 before earning his Master's M.F.A. degree from New York University (NYU) in 1998. An Emmy award-winning scenic designer and art director, Martin was a member of the United States Artists Local USA 829, IATSE and had returned to New York University as an adjunct professor of set design at the Tisch School of the Arts. Having received eight daytime Emmy awards in Outstanding Achievement in Art Direction / Set Decoration / and Scenic Design and receiving numerous other nominations, a few of Martin's career works included "Only Murders in the Building", and several daytime dramas, such as, "All My Children" and "One Life to Live". He had also been an assistant art director for the upcoming show "Sirens". His career showcased his talents from the Superbowl to children's educational programs on PBS and beyond. Among his interests, Martin was a trained purple belt in Brazilian jiu-jitsu, loved to fly drones, and was a Saturday night "Svengoolie" fan. He loved his family dearly and was very proud of his niece, Audrey, who followed in his MMA (Mixed Martial Arts) footsteps. Martin was a detailed, intellectual, and determined man throughout his life and will be missed by those who knew him. Left to cherish his memory are his mother, Charlotte Kay (Nicodemus) Fahrer of Wilmington; sister, Kathleen K. (Spencer) McKay of Wilmington; niece, Audrey Kay Fahrer McKay of Wilmington; former wife, Jenny Lai of East Elmhurst, New York; aunts, Vera (Fahrer) Smith and Linea (Fahrer) Warmke; many cousins, and numerous friends. Martin is preceded in death by his father, Clifford D Fahrer; maternal grandparents, Katherine and Royal "Nick" Nicodemus; and paternal grandparents, Mabel and Burton Fahrer. A memorial service to celebrate Martin's life will be held 7:00 p.m. Friday, November 15, 2024 at Brown Funeral Home, Wilmington. Visitation will begin at 6:00 p.m. until the service begins at 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Guests are encouraged to share stories during the service.
