Mary Ellen Murphy, age 95, of Wilmington, passed away Wednesday, August 25, 2021 at the Laurel’s of Milford. She was born May 12, 1926 in Wilmington, the daughter of the late Mark Clinton and Bertha (Bath) Peelle. Mary Ellen had been a member of the Wilmington Church of Christ and was currently attending the Wilmington Bible Baptist Church. She enjoyed playing bridge and was the last surviving member of her Bridge Club. She has also been a member of the YANI Club. Mary Ellen loved to read. She also enjoyed camping, and working with the Antique Power Club of Clinton County alongside her husband Warren. Mary Ellen is Survived by her two children, Thomas A. and his wife Deborah Murphy of Wilmington, and Susan and her husband David Smith also of Wilmington; grandchildren, Megan (Lane) Schafer of Midland, Seth (Tonia) Murphy of Midland, Matthew (Melissa) Murphy of Waynesville, and Tracey (Mike) Lanker of Anacortes, Washington; great grandchildren, Samuel and Sally Schafer, Warren, Maya, Lydia, Silas, and Ezekiel Murphy, Trevor, Kyle, and Audrey Murphy, and Addison and Eli Lanker; special friends, Eloise Sabina and Kris Compton; and her care givers, Patty Taylor and Teresa Hale. In addition to her parents, Mary Ellen is preceded in death by her husband Warren Murphy in 2005, and son David Murphy in 1967. Graveside funeral services will be held 1:30 p.m. Saturday, August 28, 2021 in Sugar Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be held Saturday from 12:00 p.m. until 1:00 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home, Wilmington.
