Michael H. Meyer, age 70, of Wilmington, passed away Monday, May 4, 2020 at Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton. He was born November 21, 1949 in Dayton, the son of John Frank and Marilyn Kathryn (Miller) Helfinstine. Michael was a Veteran of the Unites States Air Force, serving during the Vietnam War. One of his passions in life was woodworking. He volunteered at Wright Patterson A.F.B., having helped with the woodwork on the Memphis Belle among other aircraft. Michael was an avid fan of Ohio State, and had retired from FedEx as Sr. Manager of International Operations after 30 years of service. Most of all, he was a loving husband, father, grandfather, son, and brother. Michael is survived by his wife of nearly 43 years, Linda Sue (McVey) Meyer, to whom he married November 19, 1976 in Wilmington; mother, Marilyn Oswalt of Wilmington; daughters, Staci (Travis Rose) Freeze of Wilmington and Brandi (Jared Glaskow) Loury of New Vienna; grandchildren, Colton Young, Cameron Young, D.J. Freeze, Darren McGrew, Maddalyn Loury, and Samantha Loury; brothers, Rick (Charlene) Meyer of Sarasota, Florida, Doug (Kathy) Meyer of Columbus, and Scott (Sonja) Meyer of Fishers, Indiana; two nieces, and one nephew. Michael is preceded in death by his father, John “Jack” Helfinstine; brother Steve Meyer; grandmother Kathryn Auten, and step-father Paul Oswalt. Funeral services will be held 1:00 p.m. Saturday, May 9, 2020 at Brown Funeral Home. Visitation will be held Saturday from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service at 1:00 p.m. Burial with military honors accorded by the American Legion Post #49 Honor Guard will follow in the Sugar Grove Cemetery.
