Richard Joseph “Rich” Curran, age 83, of Wilmington, passed away peacefully Wednesday, September 8, 2021 at his home with family by his side. He was born March 14, 1938 in Green Hills, Ohio the son of the late Robert and Catherine (Rudler) Curran. Rich was a member of St. Columbkille Catholic Church, former member of Wilmington Elks Lodge #797, Wilmington Fraternal Order of Eagles Lodge #1224, and Gamma Phi Gamma Fraternity. He was a graduate of Wilmington College, and received is Master’s Degree from Xavier University. During his professional career in education, Rich had served as a teacher and coach in the Hillsboro, Little Miami, and East Clinton School Districts. He had also served as Principal at East Clinton. Most recently he had worked for the City of Wilmington. Rich enjoyed playing golf with friends, and was an avid follower of the Cincinnati Bengals, Cincinnati Reds, and Notre Dame Football. Rich is survived by his wife, Nancy J. (Gebhart) Curran; daughter and son-in-law, Kim and Doug Phillips of Wilmington; grandchildren, Megan Heiss of Piqua and Matthew (Stephanie) Phillips of Wilmington; great grandchildren, Adalynn Heiss, Christen Heiss, Noah Phillips, Lincoln Phillips, and Spencer Dove; sister Lynn Todd of Cincinnati; brother Ronald “Pete” (Teri) Curran of Lebanon; several nieces and nephews; many friends, many former students and athletes; and many co-workers in the education field. In addition to his parents, Rich is preceded in death by his son, Kyle Curran; grandson-in-law Christopher Heiss; and two brothers, Robert and Roger Curran. A Celebration of Rich’s Life will be held 4:00 p.m. Sunday, September 12, 2021 at Brown Funeral Home, Wilmington. The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. until the time of service at 4:00 p.m. at the funeral home. There will be a light luncheon immediately following the service at the funeral home.
