Scott Wayne Holmes

Scott Wayne Holmes, 59, of Portsmouth, Rhode Island (formerly of Wilmington) passed away surrounded by his family on Saturday, March 11th, 2023 after a long courageous battle with cancer. Scott was preceded in death by his parents Robert (Bob) and Betty Lou Holmes. Scott is survived by his wife, Patricia (Bartodej) Holmes; his former wife Kristin Vincent; children Emily (Dylan) MacKay, Abigail Holmes (fiancé Rob Guyon), Brittany (Erick) Henize and Katelyn Jordan (Zach Chadwell); grandchildren Alayna and Lyndi Henize; brother Todd (Barb) Holmes; nephews Sam (Melissa) Holmes, Adam Holmes, and Andrew (Alexis) Holmes; and great nephew Austin Holmes and great niece Hannah Holmes. Scott also never knew a stranger and leaves behind many close friends and colleagues who have become like family over the years.

Even though he received his Business degree from Wright State University, he still spent his Saturdays rooting for his favorite football team The Ohio State Buckeyes. Scott will be remembered for his zest for life, infectious laugh and the love he had for his family and friends. He was one of the GOOD ones; kind, sweet, generous with a smile that always lit up the room. He was an avid fisherman, which he shared with his girls during their childhood and most recently his granddaughter Alayna.  He had a love for his country, family history and was a proud Free Mason as a member of the Charles River Lodge. In his free time Scott has always loved to travel, whether it be for business or a relaxing getaway. A recent adventure being a scenic train ride in West Virginia with his wife, long time childhood friend Joe Bath and Joe’s wife Kerry.

Scott made everyone feel like they mattered, which is just a small piece of the legacy he leaves us with. The world is a little less wonderful without him in it.

Visitation will be held 11:00 am to 1:00 pm, Monday March 20, 2023 at Brown Funeral Home in Wilmington Ohio. Following visitation there will be a Masonic service with funeral service immediately after. Burial will take place at Sugar Grove Cemetery following the funeral service.

Scott’s generosity knew no limits. One of his final acts of charity was a check written and waiting to be mailed to the Charles River Lodge to assist in the building repair due to a collapsed ceiling.
