Shirley M. (Borton) Burton

Shirley M. Burton (Borton), age 90, of Wilmington, passed away peacefully March 17, 2026. She was born June 27, 1935 in Wilmington, the daughter of the late Clarence "Dick" and Adelaide (Garrison) Borton. Shirley was a 1953 graduate of Wilmington High School and had attended the Miami-Jacobs Business College in Dayton. She had worked and retired from the Wilmington News Journal having served in several capacities through the years. She will be deeply missed by her family. Those left to cherish her memory are her son, Michael J. (Martha) Burton of Wilmington; her grandchildren, Bradley J. (Kelly) Burton of Wilmington and Ashley M. (fiancé, Mitchell Paradine) Burton of Austin, Texas; and her great grandchildren, Kendall, Silas, Elliotte and Laelynn Burton. In addition to her parents, Shirley is preceded in death by her husband, Gerald S. Burton (January 28, 2026); and her brother Farrell Borton. A visitation with closing remarks will begin 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Thursday, March 26, 2026, at Brown Funeral Home, Wilmington. Shirley will be laid to rest privately at Sugar Grove Cemetery, Wilmington. Brown Funeral Home, Wilmington, is assisting the family. While very appreciative, the family requests no flowers be given.
