Shirley Kathleen Michael

Shirley Kathleen Michael, age 86, of Wilmington, passed away Friday, February 18, 2022 at Wilmington Nursing and Rehabilitation.  She was born January 21, 1936 the daughter of the late Charles and Florence E. (Jackson) Waulk, Sr.     Her family moved to Wilmington when she was 16 years old, and she was a 1953 graduate of Wilmington High School.  Shirley was a Lifetime Member of the Ladies Auxiliary, V.F.W. Post #6710, and a lifetime member of the Wilmington Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie #1222.  She loved to gamble, and had traveled to Las Vegas 27 times.  She enjoyed being out and “Dirty Dancing” with her husband, William Hubert Michael, Sr. who precedes her in death.   She also enjoyed crossword puzzles, playing Bingo, camping and fishing.  Shirley is survived by two children, Patricia Lynn Michael of Wilmington, and William Hubert Michael, Jr., of Spring Valley; four grandchildren, Mindy (James) Davis of Wilmington, Rachel Davis of Wilmington, Brian (Ashley) Cluxton of Hamilton, and William “Perry” (Megan) Norvell of Wilmington; great grandchildren, Brooklyn, Taylor, Kellie, Allysa, Jordan, Brian Jr., Bentley, Josiah, William Jr., Oliver, Landon, Hunter, and Hayden; brother Charles Waulk of Jamestown; and many friends.   In addition to her parents, Shirley is preceded in death by her husband Willam H. Michael, Sr; and two brothers, Orley Dale Benner, and Cecil Waulk.  Funeral services will take place 6:00 p.m. Friday, February 25, 2022 at Brown Funeral Home.  Visitation will be held from 4:00 to the time of service at 6:00 p.m.  Interment will take place later at the convenience of the family.  Following services, the family will gather V.F.W. for food and fellowship.  To leave an on-line condolence, Please visit www.arehart-brown.com, or see our Facebook page, Brown Funeral Home.
