Shirley L. Mitchell, age 76, of Wilmington, passed away Friday, January 24, 2025, at Clinton Memorial Hospital in Wilmington. She was born August 29, 1948, in Wilmington, Ohio the daughter of the late Richard M. and Evangeline (Osborn) Vandervort. Shirley enjoyed crafting, and crocheting, and she loved going out to eat at various restaurants. She had many friends, and was the unofficial President of the “Gold Sar Chili Club”. More than anything, she loved her family and spending time with them. Shirley is survived by two daughters, Tina (Darren) Brown of Wilmington, and Dawn (Chris) Shumaker of Wilmington; grandchildren, Kelsey (Skylar) Marine of Wilmington, Taylor (StevieRay) Brewington of Wilmington, and Katlyn Shumaker of Wilmington; great grandchildren, Grayson Brewington, Colton Brewington, Declan Brewington, and Clayton Dale Marine “on -the-way”; siblings, Linda (Gary) Rinehart of Wilmington, Gloria (Dan) Farmer of Kentucky, Milton (Reggi) Vandervort of Wilmington, Brian (Regina) Vandervort of Wilmington, and Brenda (Todd) Viars of Leesburg; brother-in-law Tommy (Leesa) Cox of Sabina; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Shirley is preceded in death by her first husband, Robert Cox, and second husband Dennis Mitchell. According to her wishes, cremation will take place and there will be no public service. Brown Funeral Home, Wilmington, is assisting the family.
