Thomas Haines Middleton, 89, of Wilmington, died at his home on October 17, 2021. He is survived by his wife of sixty-eight years, Helen (Jack) Middleton.  Born in Spring Valley, Ohio on February 14, 1932 to Allen I and Hazel Mae Middleton, he was a graduate of Xenia High School. He worked a brief time at General Motors and moved to Wilmington with his young bride in 1954 to follow his dream of becoming a farmer. Tom had a passion for hard work and a vision for improving the soil, the crops and the business. When outside work was finished, evening hours were spent at his desk with his calculator listening to his beloved music.  Tom was an avid bowler in his early years. He was a member of investment clubs, Pork Producers, Wilmington Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite, Clinton County Shrine Club and Aladdin Temple. He enjoyed tractor pulls, playing cards and board games with “the gang”; and spending time with other farmer friends to “talk farm”. He was of strong faith and a member of the Presbyterian Church of Wilmington.  Tom found tremendous joy in attending his grandchildren’s sporting, school and 4-H events as well as following college basketball each season. The many winters spent in Gulf Shores, AL and Marco Island, FL were special times and he loved having his family and friends visit him and Helen there.  In addition to his wife Helen, he is survived by his children; Fred Middleton (Diane Parker), Nancy McDermott (Dave), Dale Middleton (Jill), Keith Middleton (Carolyn), Jeff Middleton (Stephanie), all of Wilmington. Grandchildren: Molly (Andrew McCoy); Grant McDermott (Heather Stevens); Jeff Pace (Rachael Stanger); Jared Middleton (Marie); Amanda McKay (Chad); Matt Middleton (Jessica); and Lillian Middleton. Great grandchildren: Andrew, Samantha, Michael Middleton; Leland Middleton; Sutton Pace; Hannah Kronenberger and Nathan McDermott. He is also survived by his sister, Ruth Hofer (Bob) and sister-in law Mary Lee Amlin. Tom was very fond of his extended family, the Wildoners, as well as many nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his sister, Norma Spahr, and brother, John R. Middleton.  The family is grateful for the loving care provided in recent months by Heather, Jayne, Jenny, Kelli, Kim, Melissa and Shannon.  Memorial contributions are requested to Shriners Children’s Ohio: One Children’s Plaza 2 West, Dayton, OH 45404 or visit: https://lovetotherescue.org/  A Celebration of Life is planned after harvest.
